The mission of NHCF is to improve the quality of life in our
communities. The Foundation achieves this mission:
- by encouraging the dedication of assets for charitable
purposes of all kinds in NH, especially permanent
endowments;
- by making grants and loans, from funds contributed by
individuals, organizations and corporations, to meet changing
needs in the state;
- and by exercising leadership in the efforts of New Hampshire
residents and public and private institutions to address emerging
issues.
Our commitment to community-based giving led us to establish
regional divisions, each with their own boards and grantmaking
priorities. These divisions are the
Greater Piscataqua Community Foundation, the Lakes Region Charitable
Foundation, the Manchester Regional
Community Foundation, the Monadnock Community
Foundation, the Northern New Hampshire
Foundation, and the Upper Valley Community
Foundation.
The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, founded in 1962, is a
collection of over 1,200 funds created by donors for individualized
charitable purposes. One of the country's largest community
foundations, with over $220 million in assets, the New Hampshire
Charitable Foundation awards over 2,000 grants to nonprofits each
year, as well as over 1,400 scholarships and loans to individuals,
both through its statewide organization and its seven regional
divisions.
