2004 Spirit of NH Awards Winners Chosen

Statewide Volunteerism Recognition Event
To Be Held November 4, 2004 in Bedford

The second annual Spirit of New Hampshire Awards hosted by New Hampshire’s First Lady, Denise Benson, and The Board of Directors of Volunteer NH! will be held on November 4, 2004 at The Event Center at CR Sparks in Bedford. The event recognizes outstanding contributions to volunteerism in New Hampshire and brings together interested citizens, volunteers and representatives from business, education, government, faith communities and national service initiatives.

The awards honor outstanding volunteers as well as exemplary supporters of volunteer programs. “Volunteer Service Awards” honor the service contributions by individuals and groups in the categories of youth, adult, senior, group, family, and national service. “Volunteer Champion Awards” are given to entities that provide the ongoing support and structure for volunteers to be successful. These categories include: non-profits, faith-based organizations, service clubs, businesses, government, and education.

This year’s peer review teams, which included representatives from all sectors, have selected sixteen award recipients to honor. They include:

Volunteer Service Awards

  • Youth - Katherine Greene, Amherst NH
  • Adult - Danny Marchand, Manchester NH 
                Dr. Melissa Magnusson, Londonderry NH
  • Senior - Edwin “Win” Robinson, Concord NH
  • Group -  FOCUS (BAE Systems) Nashua NH
                  Strafford Angels, Strafford NH
  • National Service -  Beth Ann Halpern, Hanover, NH
  • Family -  The Jenkins Family, Londonderry NH

Volunteer Champion Awards

  • Small Non-Profit - The NH Center for Non Profits, Concord NH
                                  The Fixit Program, Concord NH
  • Large Non-Profit - RiverWoods at Exeter, Exeter NH
  • Business -  PSNH (Statewide)
  • State Agency - NH Dep’t of Environmental Services (Volunteer Lake Assessment Program Education Program)
  • Local Service Club - Salem Teen Social Center, Salem NH
  • Higher Education - St. Anselm College Meelia Center for Community Service, Goffstown NH
  • Faith-Based Organization - Caleb Interfaith Caregivers, Whitefield NH

One of the category award recipient will be additionally honored with the 2004 “Spirit of New Hampshire” Award. This special award is presented to the category winner chosen by the review teams as an outstanding example of New Hampshire’s tradition of service. Announcement of this year’s recipient will be made at the celebration.

A reception will be held from 5 PM to 6 PM with dinner and presentation of awards to follow.
