New Hampshire Volunteer of the Month for December

State House in Concord ~ January 13, 2010

Volunteer NH, along with the Office of the Governor, have honored Albert Savage, of Nashua, NH, as Volunteer of the Month for December, 2009. The ceremony, which was postponed in December due to inclement weather, took place at the State House on January 13, 2010.

Albert Savage has been organizing and supporting sports teams and events for youth for over 50 years through his involvement with the Elks, the Nashua Lions Club and the Nashua Knights of Columbus. “Al is definitely the “SYMBOL” of volunteerism,” said Steven Shepard, of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. “I have never met anyone as dedicated to the welfare and growth of the youth of our communities.”

Programs Albert has worked with include the Elks Boy, Girl, and Cub troop #720, Nashua Youth Baseball, Elks Girls Hockey, and many other sports, educational and community projects. “Albert's contributions to his community inspirational, like the thousands of other volunteers throughout New Hampshire. We hope everyone can find such inspiration to help others,” said Tim Dupre Executive Director of Volunteer NH.

The Volunteer of the Month award, established under Governor John Lynch and administered by Volunteer NH, recognizes outstanding individuals in the New Hampshire community for their dedication to service. Bellwether Community Credit Union, in partnership with Volunteer NH, is the Governor's Volunteer of the Month sponsor. Nominations for the awards are accepted year round and are also considered for the Spirit of New Hampshire awards in November.

Volunteer NH is a nonprofit organization with a mission to promote the tradition of service in New Hampshire. Building on that strong volunteer spirit, we support and sponsor national service initiatives and provide training, recognition, and a central site for volunteers and volunteer programs to help them strengthen their communities.
