CONCORD, NH - Volunteer NH, along with the Office of the Governor and the Executive Council, have honored Joan Willey, of Newport, NH, as Volunteer of the Month for August, 2010. The ceremony took place at the White Mountain National Forest Headquarters in Campton, NH  on August 11, 2010.

Joan Willey’s passion for community service has benefited not only Newport NH but the surrounding towns. Joan, a retired school teacher, has been volunteering for over 40 years with no intention of slowing down.  Joan’s community service includes President of the Board of Directors at the Newport Senior Center, the Newport Opera House Revival, the town’s Dickens Fair at Christmas, and so much more.  “She has been a mover and shaker in Newport her whole life.  Most notable about this lady is the cheerful energy she brings to everything she does” stated Ella Casey, Executive Director of Newport Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Volunteer of the Month award recognizes outstanding individuals in the New Hampshire community for their dedication to service. Bellwether Community Credit Union, in partnership with Volunteer NH, is the Governor's Volunteer of the Month sponsor. Nominations for the awards are accepted year round and are also considered for the Spirit of New Hampshire awards in November.
