Outstanding Volunteer Manager of the Year Awarded
Denise Charest
NHTI, Concord ~ May 12, 2009
Dedicating her life to volunteer work, Sister Denise Charest, member of the Nashua RSVP program, was recognized for her exceptional service to the community. She has not only made it a priority to help others in need, but provides motivation for others to do the same. According to Gov. John Lynch, “Volunteerism is an essential element to the Granite State's strong sense of civic engagement. It is part of a quality of life of which we are so proud.”
Sister Denise exemplifies this by working with senior volunteers willing to provide help and support in their communities and placing them in non-profit agencies of the Greater Nashua area to do just that. Within this community, Sister Denise has created a program assisting 79 non-profit agencies, those of which have been matched with more than 330 senior volunteers, resulting in 70,000 hours of service this past year. Denise More, RSVP Advisory Council Chair and RSVP volunteer states, “Sister Denise is a role model for all volunteers. She gives 100% to all that she does and with a lot of love for us all.”
Along with her work for the Nashua RSVP program, Sister Denise has also been a sister of The Holy Cross for the past 43 years. She has a degree in teaching and has studied gerontology. Sister Denise has also served on the Mayor's Committee on Volunteerism, AARP, and the Nashua Interagency Council. In addition, she has donated a great amount of time to serve as a caseworker for the elderly and for refugees in the Manchester area.
This year's Annual Governor's Conference on Volunteerism was held at the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord. More than 250 volunteer management professionals from around the state attended to gain better knowledge for managing a variety of volunteers and organizations. Approximately 30 presenters shared their knowledge in more than 35 sessions throughout the day. The conference also included a performance by the New Hampshire Notables from the University of New Hampshire, as well as a brief speech by Gov. John Lynch.
