Gov. Lynch and Executive Council Honor Lori Bertrand

NH State House ~ June 9, 2010

LORI BERTRAND RECOGNIZED FOR HER DEDICATION TO ANIMAL RESCUE LEAGUE

Concord, NH - Volunteer NH, along with the Office of the Governor, have honored Lori Bertrand, of Salem, NH, as Volunteer of the Month for June, 2010. The ceremony took place at the State House on June 9, 2010.

Lori Bertrand has been a volunteer and board member of the Salem Animal Rescue League since 2001. Lori is considered by her fellow board members as the visionary and driving force behind the SARL continuance and expansion. Lori originated a temporary sheltering program for pets displaced due to life-changing circumstances in the lives of their owners such as military deployment and home foreclosure. Lori also arranged for the delivery of donated pet food to clients of the area Meals On Wheels Program so the seniors would not have to share their daily meals with their pets.

According to Martha Adamovich, Vice President of SARL, “During the past six years I have had the pleasure and honor of working side by side with Lori in many capacities. She, personally and through the efforts of the organization, has accomplished many goals, some more challenging than others, but all with the same motivation to diminish the suffering of companion animals and improve the quality of life for members of the community who find comfort in the company of their pets.”

The Volunteer of the Month award, established under Governor John Lynch and administered by Volunteer NH, recognizes outstanding individuals in the New Hampshire community for their dedication to service. Bellwether Community Credit Union, in partnership with Volunteer NH, is the Governor's Volunteer of the Month sponsor. Nominations for the awards are accepted year round and are also considered for the Spirit of New Hampshire awards in November.

Volunteer NH is a nonprofit organization with a mission to promote the tradition of service in New Hampshire. Building on that strong volunteer spirit, we support and sponsor national service initiatives and provide training, recognition, and a central site for volunteers and volunteer programs to help them strengthen their communities.
